I seriously wish I had devoted more time to this class but Art 440 was a fuck storm. Still, I’m fairly pleased with all the pieces and concept for this project.
Everything that I set out to accomplished was completed with the exception of an Android App Design, however I think I can live without that. I’m sure having 10 to 11 deliverables was plenty.
I did forget to submit one piece after returning home: A poster of my personal coffee expenses over the last 2 months. (it was well over $200) —shocking.
Too bad there isn’t a part two to this class. For some reason this thesis still feels incomplete in a way. Like there’s more I could do. But I suppose that’s the purpose of the thesis… leaving room for growth.

Chapter 8:
Social Design: When it comes to social design, I feel like it’s often a toss up on whether it will be successful or not. I say this because a lot of designers usually aspire to make something that is good. Either good for themselves or good for other people and this is sometimes problematic. My current thesis project would be considered social design but as I was going through this processes I found myself juggling designing for myself rather than for other people. It’s tough to remember sometimes that social design is suppose to help others and as a designer making the things, it’s easy to get sucked into the world of “me, me, me.”
Design Thinking: Jelly Helm and Frank Chimero are design thinkers. I am a design conversationalist.
Digital Design: Technology is the key to the future and design must always accommodate for the future. Digital design explores new way of communication: text message, VoIP, video, sound, movement, and physical interaction. I don’t want to say print is dead, but it is falling just slightly. Digital design is a combination of creative thinking, and user friendly interaction and that is the new way to design; to get the audience to participate.
Branding: Branding “has become more important than the thing it purports to brand.” I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I suppose for the designer it’s a good thing, but as a social designer that could potentially be bad. Take BP Oil: a great mark, a great slogan, and a great look… however everything about BP is not. Is the designer responsible for making evil look so good? Possibly.
